Business Website

This is important for social media presence and although most people hang out on socials, having even a simple website to back up your online pressence is critical for your authentic online validation to a new patient.

Domain Registration

In this section we are going to cover the base steps of registering your domain name for your business website.

It’s a really good idea before you actually pick your business name, to check that a Domain name is also available. However, this can get missed int he excitement of getting started. We are going to step through both processes and if you want to actually sit a quick video tutuorial on this, you can hop over to our courses page to grab that lesson.

What am I going to find when looking for a domain name.

Firstly, you need to find if it’s available and of course you want to know where to do this search.

I recommend a few places…

https://au.godaddy.com/

https://www.netregistry.com.au/

https://www.crazydomains.com.au/

https://www.wix.com/html5au/domain-solutions

There are many “free” domain sites available, however, nothing comes for “free” really and you might need to consider the website plan at the same time. See Website section for this aspect.

What domain options do I have?

The list is massive actually… most common and to keep it simple:

.com.au     .com

.net.au     .net     .co     .biz

.(captialcityname) eg. Melbourne, eg. Sydney

.org & .org.au – dedicated for Not For Profit organisations

You already have your business name…

Chance are if you already have your business name registered, your .com.au domain with the exact same spelling will be available.

If its not, you need to decide if it is worth fighting for. You will need to seek professional legal advice.

However, for your knowledge, a business name registered in Australia with ASIC, traditionally has first rights over the .com.au domain name

Before choosing your new business name…

If you are right at the beginning of working on your new business, it is recommended that you choose your business name and domain name at the same time.

Why? It will open your eyes to a new way to look at your business name with your domain name attached.

Eg. Claudia’s Cleans = www.claudiascleans.com.au

It’s very likely these days to think that being on social media is the best place for your business credentials and information. This is not incorrect, however the power of a website will always be a critical aspect for ebing found, both locally and abroard.

With Google My Business competing with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social platforms, Google have their own organic and free ways to get you noticed, however only if you have a website that your own.

It also worth considering, if social media was switched off tomorrow, where do your patients find you?

Lets break down some basic options to get you started for your website!

It really isnt difficult to get started and maintain your online pressence!

DIY or Developer Built Website?

This is one of the first question on new and existing business owners minds. And this opens to many other questions as you embark on the business journey.

Ask yourself:

1. Do you have time to learn how to build your own website?

2. Do you then have time to maintain it?

3. What do you want your website to look like?

4. What do you want your website to achieve for your business?

If your answer to questions 1 & 2 is yes, then you can consider building your own. However this can be dependant on the answers to questions 3 & 4.

DIY Websites

There are a massive amount of options for a cost effective and quick start website. Sometimes, when starting out to keep your costs down, building something basic is a good idea. As you can plan to upgrade this at a later stage.

I always go back to a base priciple, you get what you pay for! Don’t forget this piece of the puzzle as many DIY built packages will not cover items required to get your site seen by potenial patients.
