We’ve all seen the amazing social media posts of those we follow. Beautiful colours, amazing posts and gathering an ongoing arrangement of information and personal posts to stop the scroll online.
This is great to see and certainly admirable, but this travels beyond their Instagram posts, stories and reels.
It pays to check out those who catch you eye. Not to copy, but to help you create your own style, one that suits you, your business and will grab the attention of your target audience.
Your colour Palette
Choosing your brand colours…it’s like decorating your house. It’s not just about one colour, but could mean you have a key colour as your hero, with other complimenting colours.
Look around you, inside your car, the interior is a combination of textures, tones to compliment the overall look.
As the shopping centre, the floor, the walls, the rails and the building pillars are all disguised in subtle combinations or colours and finishes for a certain look and feel.
Your logo is just the same. You can bring it to life with some great decisions. The number of colours is up to you, don’t forget less is more and keep it simple.
Another key aspect to know is you can use black and white with your brand colours as these work with anything.

You can use this free tool and lock the colours you like and the application will then choose other colours to correspond with your choices. You can then download the image of your colours, save the URL and many other export options.
This great resource also comes in a handy APP for your mobile.
If you are DIY your branding, your selection might age and become out of trend with your colour choices. That’s ok, you can plan to re-brand in the future.

Your Favourite Font/s
Choosing your font for you business branding can be a tough choice.
Having 3 to choose from can help cover aspects of not only your social media but all your website and items like business cards, brochures and email marketing
You want to find clearly readable fonts, ones that compliment each other and a cursive font for those personal touches is also good to have ready to use.
Font ninja is a great place to start, a Chromw extension tool to identify fonts you find whilst browsing the web – https://www.fonts.ninja/
Sometimes our font choice can be based on applications we are using in our business, platforms such as Canva or Adobe.
Remember, not all fonts are the same from one application to another.
A good way to find common fonts is to use base families:
- serif’ (e.g., Times)
- ‘sans-serif’ (e.g., Helvetica)
- ‘cursive’ (e.g., Zapf-Chancery)
- ‘fantasy’ (e.g., Western)
- ‘monospace’ (e.g., Courier)
Finding complimenting fonts can also be a little tricky. Google can assist like so many other questions we have in business and if in doubt, seek an expert opinion from a graphic designer and don’t forget our partners link above.
